Thinking over the last few months…
Shale gas drilling causing earthquakes in Lancs?
Food inflation at 4.9%
Adult Care in the UK in crisis?
Possibility of “blocking” Alzheimer’s via CJD treatment?
European food trade wars, after Germans accuse Spanish cucumbers?
IMF endorses our fiscal policy? (Mark Steel’s view is that this is akin to being endorsed by Gary Glitter!)
Public sector pension rights!
What is happening in the world today? The simple answer is that we humans are doing some very silly things, and our news agencies are making news from nothing.
I don’t follow the red-top papers, I can’t stand the Mail, Express and similar expensive bog roll, but some of the stories I’ve seen in the Indie of late makes my hair curl! Fortunately, I wear my hair short, but politicians make my blood boil!
I was at a conference a week or so ago, and the closing speaker was Ken Livingstone. He came across humorously, but when he called LibDems “venal sub-species” I took umbridge. I asked him about the “legacy” that was promised for the rest of Britain as a result of the Olympics, and whether his view could see beyond the London horizon.
His answer was that there was “Bugger all legacy outside London” and he didn’t care about us. What a twerp! I work in London a lot, and some of the stuff he said about transport and immigration made sense, but in an effort to sound humorous he was simply crass and insulting – he was no better than “Lazy Boris” (as he calls him) when it came to engaging the public. Tarring all local Councillors as power-crazed self-publicists shows the kind of people that surround him, and not much about his understanding of altruism.

[...] Enter, Ken Livingstone, a man who is going to need as many Lib Dem second preferences as possible if he is going to fulfil his dream of being the Olympic Mayor. You would think in is position he would try and butter up some local Lib Dems, show a bit of leg, but no. Instead of a wink and a flirt, Livingstone decided to call the Lib Dems a “venal sub-species” [...]
[...] doesn’t come as much of a shock to hear that Ken Livingstone allegedly called Lib Dems a “Venial Sub-Species” . How wrong Ken is, and he shouldn’t resort to playground [...]
